🌳 Managing Project Inventory from the Desktop

Project Inventory is the foundation of ArborNote.
It houses all trees and plant assets within a project and feeds directly into proposals, work orders, and reporting.

From the Desktop App, you can:

  • View trees on the map

  • Edit tree details

  • Bulk edit multiple trees

  • Assign objectives

  • Filter and search inventory

  • Add new trees

  • Prepare trees for proposals


📍 Step 1: Open a Project

  1. Click Projects in the left-hand menu

  2. Select the project you want to manage

  3. You will land in Map View

Map View displays all trees visually within the project.


🗺 Understanding Map View

In Map View you can:

  • Click on individual tree icons

  • Use the search bar to find specific trees

  • Zoom in/out

  • Switch between General Tree Care and Plant Health Care (if applicable)

Each tree icon represents a record in your inventory.


🌲 Editing a Single Tree

Method: Click Directly on the Tree

  1. Click a tree icon on the map

  2. The sidebar panel opens

  3. Edit fields such as:

    • Species

    • DBH

    • Height

    • Health

    • Objective

    • Notes

  4. Click Save

Changes update the project inventory immediately.


📋 Managing Inventory from List View

To manage inventory in a table format:

  1. From Map View, click the General Tree Care tab

  2. You will see a full list of trees in the project

From List View you can:

  • Sort columns

  • Search inventory

  • Highlight multiple trees

  • Perform bulk edits

List View is best for managing large inventories efficiently.


✏ Bulk Editing Multiple Trees

  1. In General Tree Care List View,
    Highlight the trees you want to edit using Shift + Click

  2. Once highlighted, click Edit Highlighted

  3. Select the attribute you want to modify (example: Objective)

  4. Apply the changes

  5. Click Save

Bulk editing is useful for:

  • Assigning objectives to multiple trees

  • Updating health ratings

  • Making seasonal adjustments

  • Cleaning up data across large sites


🎯 Managing Objectives

Objectives define recommended services for a tree.

To update objectives:

  1. Click on a tree (map or list view)

  2. Scroll to the Objective section

  3. Add or edit objectives

  4. Save

You can assign up to three objectives per tree.

Keeping objectives updated ensures accurate proposal generation.


➕ Adding New Trees

To manually add a new tree from the Desktop:

  1. From Map View, check the Add Tree option

  2. Right-click on the map where you want to place the tree

  3. The tree detail panel will open

  4. Enter required information such as:

    • Species

    • DBH

    • Height

    • Health

    • Objective (if applicable)

  5. Click Save

The new tree is immediately added to the project inventory and becomes available for proposals and reporting.


🔎 Searching & Filtering Inventory

Use the search and filtering tools (Green Funnel Icon)to: 

  • Find specific species

  • Identify trees by health rating

  • Locate trees with or without objectives

  • Prepare groups of trees for proposals

This is especially helpful for large properties.


🔄 How Inventory Connects to Proposals

Inventory feeds directly into proposals.

Important:

  • Edits made in inventory affect future proposals

  • When creating a proposal, the Update Inventory toggle determines whether proposal edits permanently update the tree record

Best Practice:
Review and clean inventory before creating proposals to avoid inconsistencies.
