Photo Tag

Background

Photo Tag lets a user walk a property and capture tagged assets — trees, landscape items, or inspection findings — in one continuous pass, without stepping into a separate pin-drop or map-tagging flow for each one.

The core time savings is in how a pin gets placed. Instead of manually dropping a pin for every tree, tapping to set its location, and then attaching photos and details as a second step, Photo Tag keeps the user in the camera view the whole time: shoot the current tree, save it, and the app moves straight to the next one. GPS places each tag's pin automatically from its first photo — there is no separate pinning step at all.

This feature is especially valuable for landscapers, who care less about precise pin placement and more about efficiency. Once a landscaper opens a tagged photo, the image itself shows exactly where the issue is, so GPS location serves as a supporting reference rather than the sole point of truth.

One Photo Tag session can capture many assets this way, one after another. Walk the property, tag as you go, and upload everything together at the end.

Version / Platform

Platform — Mobile
Works in — Landscape Inventory and Inspection / GTC / PHC
Location — the ‘+’ icon on the project map page
Photos per tag — Unlimited
Upload — All tags in the session upload together when the user taps Done

Feature Highlights

  • No manual pin-dropping — GPS places each tag's pin automatically from its first photo, removing a separate step per asset
  • Continuous field flow — shoot, save, and move straight to the next tree without leaving the camera view
  • Fields carry over — repeated attributes like Category, Condition, or Species stay set for the next tag
  • Safe, batched uploads — every tag from the session uploads together on Done, and queues safely if the app is interrupted

Step-by-Step

Open Photo Tag

from the + menu on the map screen, choose Photo Tag from the task list.

Selecting Photo Tag from the task list.

Shoot the first tree

tap Photo to capture one or more shots. The first photo sets this tag's GPS location automatically — there's no separate pin to place.

Photo Tag live view — attribute bar, photo count, and GPS accuracy at the top.

Add details

tap the attribute bar to fill in name, species, condition, etc. for the mode in use.

Save & Next

locks the tag in and clears the camera immediately — straight on to the next tree, with no trip back to the map to place a pin.

Repeat down the row

keep shooting, saving, and moving tree to tree. Each save drops another pin on the map automatically.

Pins accumulate on the map automatically as each tag is saved — nothing placed by hand.

Done

uploads every tag from the session to the server at once.

Attribute Sets by Mode

Photo Tag shows different fields depending on what's being tagged — opening it from a Tree job asks tree questions, not landscape ones.

Landscape / Inventory — General assets

Name: tap to type
Color: defaults to green, or pick your own
Note: free text

No category, condition, species, or cost fields here.

Landscape / Inspection — Inspection findings

Tree — Tree tags

Species: type-ahead suggestions
Objective: type-ahead suggestions
Hours: estimated labor
Price: estimated cost

No name, note, or color field — same four fields as LiDAR Tag.

Troubleshooting / Support FAQ

Why didn't a tag get a pin on the map?

The first photo of each tag sets its GPS location. If accuracy is worse than roughly 20 meters, the app warns before saving — move a few steps into the open and reshoot if possible.

What happens if I tap Done while I still have unsaved photos?

ArborNote asks first: Save, Discard, or Keep Editing. Nothing is dropped silently.

The Unsaved Photos prompt appears if Done is tapped with photos still pending a save.

Do attribute selections carry over between trees?

Category, Condition, Color, Species, Objective, Hours, and Price all stay set for the next tag. Note and Observation always clear, since those are specific to one asset.

What happens if the app is force-quit mid-upload?

Anything not yet confirmed stays safely queued and finishes uploading the next time the app is opened.
