Step-by-Step

The provider toggle appears at the top left of a project's Map tab, next to the Species and Markers drop-downs.

STEP 1   Locate the Google / Mapbox toggle in any ArborNote Map View 

The toggle sits at the top left of the Map tab. The default selection is set to Google Maps.

STEP 2   Select a provider   

Click Google or Mapbox to switch. The map reloads using the selected provider.

STEP 3   Selection is saved automatically 

The chosen provider is saved at the project level. It persists the next time this project is opened, including after logout, login, or a page refresh.

Troubleshooting / Support FAQ

Q:  Is the Google/Mapbox toggle available everywhere in ArborNote?

No. It's available only within Projects, on the project’s Map tab. Every other map in ArborNote continues to use Google Maps.

Q:  Does switching providers change or delete any tree or location data?

No. Switching only changes how the data is rendered. The same marker data, locations, and status indicators are displayed in both providers.

Q:  Which provider is the default?

Google Maps remains the default for existing users unless a product decision specifies otherwise.

Q:  When should a customer use Mapbox instead of Google Maps?

Mapbox is built for large inventories, particularly those exceeding 20,000 markers. Google Maps can start to slow down around 1,000 markers and may crash past 20,000.

Q:  Does Mapbox support all the same features as Google Maps?

Both providers display the same marker data, locations, status indicators, clustering, and available interactions where supported. Any Google Maps feature that isn't available in Mapbox, or behaves differently, will be documented separately as it's identified.

Q:  What happens if the selected provider fails to load?

The feature includes a fallback so that a map-loading failure doesn't crash the ArborNote page or application.
